All proposers need not under go
medical examination for getting insurance cover. A large part of insurance
proposals are underwritten without any medical report. They are called
non-medical proposals. The bifurcation of medical and non-medical proposals are
based on a variety of factors such as age of the life proposed, sum proposed,
sex, illnesses/operations suffered /undergone, total sum under consideration
etc. On this different insurers have different standards. Where medical
examination of the life proposed is called for he will be examined by a medical
examiner or board or hospital approved by the insurer and the report will be
directly submitted to the insurer. There are standard forms to be used by
medical examiners. However there are cases where special reports are called
for. For example the HbA1C report pertaining to a diabetic or an Elisa test to
rule out the possibility of HIV/AIDS.
